NO PURPOSE
Who has this question?
SC: Mahaprabu, I’ve been observing the times when I feel really down. Afternoon, evening it comes when I feel I haven’t done anything significant today. The mind has been programmed that I should keep doing something. As a result, when down, I don’t even do dhyanam at those times, which is actually what should I be doing. So I’m wondering: What is the purpose of man? What should he do?
Mahaprabu: The question you asked me, “What should man do”? You should stay without the thought that you are man. That question itself should not be there. That is what you need to do. When man was created first, what was his purpose? Just to exist. What is the purpose of existence? It is its nature to exist. It is a play of nature.
SC: Yes, like a bird has no purpose. It is born and it dies.
Mahaprabu: See, You are separating it as bird (Laughing). Existence is flying. That’s all.
SC: Then in scriptures like Vivekacudamani it says, Moksha is the purpose of human birth. Why?
Mahaprabu: Nothing. No purpose is there for Existence. But people have said things like Moksha because otherwise people won’t sit down and make an attempt. People say “I don’t know myself, I don’t know myself.” But because he IS, he is asking that question. Which means he is blabbering. Because SOMEONE IS THERE to say I don’t know! It’s like having something and saying I don’t have it. Observe carefully. He says I don’t know myself, but he doesn’t say I don’t exist. (Laughing). So what I’m saying is, be without this question as to what is the purpose. All purposes will be found then. Who is this question about purpose for? For Existence? No. It doesn’t say I have forgotten my purpose. This question is for your personhood, your mind, your brain. And it does so, using Existence.
