CHANTING OM
Om Chanting leads to no-thought state
Try chanting Om with many thoughts in your head. It is difficult. That flow won’t happen. Also, when you do Omkaram you cannot have thoughts. But when you do Omkaram it is not the same as it is for Mahaprabu. Because as your attention leaks out, thoughts sneak in, the quality of the Omkaram is affected. But the reverse is also true. If you keep on practicing Omkaram, your thoughts will stop and finally turn off. So to switch off the mind, practice chanting Om. The difficulty is that during your practice, some thoughts will enter. But if you persist in your practice, Om chanting itself will switch off the mind. The reason is, thoughts are related to the brain. Omkaram is the sound of Uyir (Life energy). Chanting Om takes you from Thought to Sound. As you become attentive to the Sound, soon you will be in the Soundless state which is Silence. So Om -> Sound -> Silence.
