The beauty of Love is expressed by Sri Mahaprabu. He stresses the importance of Love, why we are unable to bring out the Love in us, and what needs to happen to bring out this Love. He shows us how Love and Self-knowledge are together and inseparable.
Mahaprabu has seen this very clearly. When someone does something with love, for a Master, no matter what it is, no matter how small it is or how big it is, no matter who the person is, a small boy or an adult, when you do it with Love, THAT MATTERS.
It must be done with Love from your heart. For example, say the heart in front of me is filled with 10% love. Out of that some portion is conveyed to the master, then what is reciprocated is 100 times that. Just for your understanding. It comes back to you more than a hundred-fold. It echoes back multiplied. Take a basic task such as talking. Most of the time we talk from here (pointing to the head), where there is no love at all there. 99% of people coming towards spirituality when they meet a Master, they are coming from here (pointing to the head). So, zero love comes towards the Master, therefore they in turn receive nothing. Even if they had shown 1% love, they would have received a lot more in return. And what is it that benefits the disciple the most from a Jnani? It is Love. I have seen this very closely.
Jnani is not a resource
But people mostly treat the Jnani as a resource. Once you treat something as a resource, you want to use it. You want to take it, obtain some benefit from it. You are in business now. A Master is not a resource. He is the Source. That’s all. He is a Source for what? For your Wisdom. He is not a resource for your wisdom. When you start feeling that the Master is a source for your wisdom you will be a receiver. You will become empty. There will be surrender. There will be no attempt. Instead, if you think that the Master is a resource, there will always be an attempt. But initially most seekers reach a Master thinking that he is a resource. Still the Master accepts him. He will simply be coming, going and having a conversation. Once he realizes that the Master is not a resource but the Source, then he starts to receive even without his knowing. There is a big difference between ‘you will receive’ vs. ‘you will use.’ In using, there is an ego. In receiving there isn’t.
Love is the Receiver
So be a receiver. What is the receiver here? It is Love. You don’t need knowledge. Knowledge is tied to the brain. Can the brain see Love? Is the brain the center for Love? You can keep huge amounts of information in your brain. But as long as you are coming from the brain you will never get the real benefit from the Master. See, the Master wants to give the Love. He never wants to give information. His intention is to make you to feel the Love, thereby you can also come to know that there is a Source for Love. And that you are also the Source of Love. Until then Love is just information for you. L.O.V.E is not Love.
The Master knows that it is a waste of time as long as there is only an information exchange, but he still waits to see if the love is arising. If the disciple stays at the information level, Love will only be a word in the brain. Just another piece of information. The brain will process it, and try to understand it like anything else. By processing Love, the brain cannot get Love because the brain is in no way connected with Love.
Feeling, not Words
You are also the Source of Love. What you have missed is feeling, experiencing the Love which is flowing, which is everywhere. That’s why for many years in Satsang I didn’t allow the usage of the word Brahman, Atma, etc. Disciples should not use these words. Because when you say Atma, it is just a word in your brain, without an experience behind it. You have formed some knowledge about what is unknown. Don’t speak about something you don’t know. Don’t give it a name. Let the unknown be unknown. Only then you will at least have the intent to know it. Once you have given it to your brain, anything you encounter will only strengthen that. You know what is even funnier? You are the real Atma, here and now. But you will be trying for the projected one! And you will try to convince the Master that you have reached the projected Atma.
On the other hand, you know what Love is. You have felt it. Of all the feelings in you, the one that lasts the longest, the one that does not bore you, the one which you don’t want to avoid – What feeling is that? It is only Love. Even sex, people get bored with and even avoid it after some time. But Love is unique. It never gives a feeling that you should avoid it. It is unique. So, start there.
Do you know about Love? This Love – does it originate from the Brain? Have you created Love? You know that it gives me a very good feeling. Its absence makes me unhappy. It is inside me. But it is not coming out in its full form. It is struggling to come out. If it came out unrestricted 24 hours a day, how would it be? Would I avoid it? No. 24 hours would you like to be angry? 24 hours have sex? No. See, only Love is that way. Then why is it not coming out?
Your efforts then must be what? To maximise the opportunity for the Love to flow. Actually, what is existing here and now, which is bodiless, independent of space and time, limitless, and endless is LOVE. As a source it is inexhaustible. As you cannot exhaust it, it is limitless. You know very well that you have not created this. What is Godliness? When you are filled with tremendous, overflowing love in you, that state is called Godliness. I am not talking about the word ‘Godlines’. The name is not Godliness. God has not given the name. Someone who has felt that wonderful state in him has given it that name. That state of Godliness directly relates with Love. Can you differentiate Godliness and Love? Love in its original form is Godliness. Rainwater is the original water. All other things are mixed. River water, Tap water etc.
How to bring out the Love
How to bring out the Love in me? It is flowing naturally, but there are blocks. So, the efforts are not to create Love or to increase the Love. You have to remove the obstacles that are blocking it. Remove them and it will flow. How do you remove the blocks? Only by living with the Master, being in Surrender. When you interact with others, as the egos are interacting, there is no flow of love. But it is very easy to move, and talk with a Master as he has no ego. He talks from heart; He lives for you. Actually, a Master is the Servant Who Serves Those Who Deserve.
Love (Master) accepts everything. And vice versa: When there is acceptance there is love. Acceptance is the expression of Love. The other name for Acceptance is Surrender. Think. If there is no acceptance, can there be Love? That’s why a Master keeps on stressing the importance of Acceptance. When you start accepting you are preparing yourself to express Love. Why express Love? Because Love is God. What do you want to achieve through spirituality? You want to meet God, embrace God, and live with Him. Who is God? God is Love. So, to meet him, you must have Love 100%; you must become Love itself. How? Through Acceptance, Surrender to a living Master.
Love and Awareness
Thus, feeling and enjoying the flow of Love in its full form, realizing that what is existing is Love, is called enlightenment. And if you experience that Love, you will experience another thing along with it. Something makes me recognize that Love. You will realize that Love is a feeling with knowledge i.e., Awareness. The knower, known and knowing, all are one. The Knower is Love, the Known is Love and the process of knowing is also Love. It is very different from the Love you have recorded in your brain. Real Love is a continuous flow, with Awareness about itself. When we speak about Love, we forget Awareness. We use it unconsciously.
Love (Anbu) and Awareness (Arivu) are not two different things. They are inseparable. That’s why we give importance to Love. Where there is Love, Arivu (Awareness of its existence, Knowledge) will follow automatically as they are inseparable. But instead, seekers start from Arivu, from the brain. Finished! They break their head about so many things. Instead, you know about Love, you know you want it, and you know that everyone wants it. Start there. In 2006 when Satsang started, I only spoke about Love. Only Vaiai Subramaniam (author of Yellam Ondre – All is One) touched on this. He says: Approach God with name and form. Be loving to him. Slowly your mind will mature. Then you will progress to higher levels. But even easier than this, there is a way. But when you hear it you will think that it is a cheap one and you will not tend to follow it. But truly there is no easier way than this. It is the best way. That way is this: Unnal nanmai adayavo theemai adayavo bhadhya pattula anaithu uyirgalukkum nee kattum anbu.
Showing Love to all beings who are going to benefit from you or be hurt by you – That is the best way.
See the words. You will Love someone you like but imagine showing love to someone hurting you or even someone who is going to be hurt by you. Meaning you are going to do wrong to him, not the other way. In all cases show love, always give importance to Love. That’s what he is saying. This is the simplest and direct route. But even he did not stress it. He did not make it his focal point. Yet he authorizes it.
The Master can show you the way to bring that Love out. Do that. Instead, people are feeding more and more information and breaking their heads over so many difficult things. Instead of the continuous flow of ego in you, keep on giving importance to the flow of Love in you. For this you have to keep the flow of Awareness. Only when you are aware you will at least know if there is Love flowing or not. Once you are aware that the Love is not flowing, you can cry for it. That will lead you to it. Love knows about its existence.
When you are with the Master he will easily show you where all your ego is flowing instead of Love. The disciple needs to be ready to bear that, accept that, feel sorry and rectify it. The flow should transform from 10% Love and 90% Ego to Zero % Ego and 100% Love. This is the task. Then what are you meditating on? A mind-defined silence. Actually, enjoying the feeling of the flow of love is meditation.
SC: But all of us do it. You did it also Mahaprabu.
Mahaprabu: Yes, without knowing what Meditation was, I used to sit. I told you this.
Those who are filled with love can enjoy the silence, but the reverse is not necessarily true. The moment you feel silence, you may not feel Love. But the moment you feel Love you will feel silence, but not as a word. Instead of silence there will be joy. And that joy will give you the satisfaction. This satisfaction ends in silence. A state of no oscillation. There is no want in that state. You are at equilibrium.
Instead if you start looking for silence, you will neither reach joy nor love. In the name of silence you are simply doing something. See what people are meditating for. It is all happening at the brain center. Brain is a muscular organ created by God to supervise, monitor and coordinate the functions of the body and protect it. For this purpose, thinking power was given. There is no problem with the thinking process, which is an ability of the brain. But a record in that brain that says ‘I am a separate person’ is the problem. The data is bad. Not the organ. So trying hard to stop thinking is what many are chasing. You will go mad. There is a big difference between trying to stop thinking versus thinking stopping by itself.
The bad data in the brain center is the problem. The whole system is now running with this bad data as the center. Instead the whole system should run based on Love as the center. This bad data has to be invalidated, and it has to be done by you, since you are the one who recorded it. The Guru cannot do it for you. Once you remove this bad record, the natural spring will come out. It wants to come out. The Master will show you the way to bring the love out. Just follow his words exactly. If you go deep inside Love you will find the pearl of self-knowledge deep inside. It is not separate from Love. It is like the fragrance in the flower. You cannot separate the fragrance from the flower. So, the knowledge you are looking for is not here in the brain. It is buried in love. If you go with Love, you will attain it.
