The Problem and the way out
Sri Mahaprabu had just conducted the practice of Unarvu Nilai Dhyanam. A stillness prevails over the room and hearts. Mahaprabu asked us to contrast this state with the state of mind during our daily life. A single thought, that I am an individual is running our lives. That thought knows nothing about Love or Life. Hence the miserable condition we seem to be in. He points the way out and exhorted us, urging us to make use of this rare opportunity that we have been blessed with.
The enemy is living
Individuality, the idea that you are a person is nothing but a single thought. That thought that you are a separate person is living your life. The one which does not have life is living. It does not know anything about love. It is not a true life. So there is no real happiness. Remove that enemy. Removing that enemy is called Meditation. Keep on trying. Keep on trying. This is the only one thing that you have to do. Life is THAT which is behind it (it refers to the idea that you are a person); behind the body and thought. But what is living is the thought that you are a separate individual. Imagine this life. No love, No joy, No happiness, No silence. You cannot attain through that thought. Or whatever you attain through that thought will not give you peace or silence.
Your reality is existing here and now, beyond the body, beyond the thought. We are not giving importance to that one. Instead we are giving more and more importance to the body, to the thought, to the idea of an individual: I am so and so, I am like this, I should be like this, I like this, I don’t like this. A strong web. This is foolishness.
Try to remember the last 10 minutes (referring to Unarvu Nilai Dhyanam practice that we just had). How vital. Just I wanted to give you a taste, a glimpse. Spend more time with THAT. Allow THAT to live. THAT is real life-energy. THAT is living. It alone can live. It is the true substance that lives permanently. The body is not permanent. The thought that you are a male/female is not permanent. But the one that is existing here and now, beyond the body, beyond the thought is not bound by time; this timeless, spaceless, deathless being, it is here and now. We are missing it. Missing it continuously due to our insincerity, due to our irresponsibility, due to our indiscipline, due to our bad habit, due to our bad character. No wonder we keep missing it. We are insincere, and irresponsible habitually.
The way out
Thoughts and Vasanas are the enemies that prevent you. The only way to cross them is this: Surrender, Total Saranagathi (surrender). Aiiya (Sir) I have given myself to you. I have no expectations, no opposition. If you are able to surrender like this, with no expectation and no opposition then you can kill the enemy and complete the journey. Whatever the Guru says; your mind, your heart must be in line with the Master. Because you are not able to reach that which is right here, right now. Why? Due to the memory depositions (from this birth) and mental depositions (vasanas from earlier births which are even stronger obstacles). Your target is very near. You are very close to it. But you are unable to reach it due to these two obstacles.
So the journey must be continuous. If you leave it in between, you have to restart, because in the gap so many memories will occupy your mind and so many vasanas will come. It is like new growth coming out of a cut branch. You will get attracted and enjoy those new leaves and get lost. Only through Surrender without expectation or opposition, the journey can be started and continued without a break till the end. We are putting our whole life at stake in this joint venture. The Master is giving his lifetime and love for you. The time spent by him on you is priceless and has no equivalent. Precious moments. Try to understand… The target is so close to you. Yet you are struggling, even after knowing that it is there.
You have to work hard. This is your only goal. Be in total surrender. Whatever the Guru wants you to do. 100% do it. It is just you and the Guru in this life. Everything else should be made zero. Only then your memories of this birth will go, and then we can tackle the depositions from previous births (vasanas).
Who on this earth will fight for you like this? Think! Only the Guru. He will stand behind you throughout. No one else is even capable or interested. If you don’t work hard in such a journey where a Guru is behind you at every step, then when will you ever do it?
I’m telling you, the journey has not even started yet. It will start only when you are in total surrender, with no expectation, no opposition. Only Yes, always yes, to the Master. That inner atmosphere is needed for the journey to begin.
It is a different world, the world that is waiting for you. I have enjoyed both worlds. I know the path. I am the right guide. That’s why I am showing you at every step. I am showing you through the window (Unarvu Nilai Dhyanam). Make use of this opportunity. Human birth is a very great opportunity. Being with a Guru is extremely rare. Don’t miss it. Finish it. Put a full stop to this world. Only then the other gate will be open to you. You cannot be in both worlds at the same time. Only the Guru can do that. When you become a Guru, when you become Enlightened, then God will give you the capacity to travel in both worlds. At that time you will find no difference. But till then close the door to this world. Then the door to that world will open to you. Come on. I am waiting. I am inviting you all. That’s all I can say.
Only in the beginning of this journey is there a You and I. As the journey proceeds, you and I will disappear. It is a journey that has a beginning but is endless as both of get dissolved. When both of us are dissolved, everything will be solved.
Love you all. Enjoy, each and every moment. Gurudeva.
